GCO GOLF LEAGUE
The GCO league is a nine hole, friendly, yet competitive, fully handicapped, men's golf league. 2026 will be our 23nd season. A lot of great competition has been played and a lot of new frendships made. Golf is played each Wednesday after work at the excellent Shale Creek Golf Course which alternates the nines. Tee times are set up the day before so you have the option of going out against your match as early as 4:00 p.m. or as late as 5:45 p.m. We also rotate between the back three tees, (blue, black and gold) which makes the course play totally different each time. The GCO also features four 18-hole Majors at various Top-20 courses during the season and these weekend tournaments have a significant impact on league scoring. We permit 3 "bye weeks" to allow for family or work obligations. The season concludes mid-September with our final Major. The GCO also has fun annual 2-man team events such as the "Smash-Up" which pits its membership against each other in mid September.
The season begins the first Wednesday of April, weather permitting. After about about 24 weeks we conclude with our final Major mid-September. The option 2-man best ball tournament follows the next Sunday.
This year will will carry a 30+ man league. We are looking for golfers with handicaps between 0-18 for eighteen holes, basically keeping your nine hole score below 47. We alternate the back three tees (3600, 3400 and 3300) at Shale Creek and for our majors, we use tees close to 6500 yards. Everything is by USGA rules. League dues are $150.00 per person plus you will be required to pay your own greens fees. Weekly greens fees are about $26 with included cart and range. Walking is permitted and encouraged at least for nine hole weekly play. The league is maintained over the Internet utilizing the golf app "Netbirdie.com" and via e-mail. The league fee is required in advance of the season. Players utilize an electronic tee shet to schudule their own matches within the 4pm to 6pm window.
There is very little turnover in this league. Many of the bonds formed here last well beyond the golf course. But year to year, we usually have a limited number of openings. If you are a bogey golfer or better with a handicap index generally under 18, consider joining us in. If you can manage the Wednesday afternoon tee time and the four 18 hole Sunday morning Majors, send us your application well before the start of a new season. Go ahead and send it in the middle of winter if your want. Include the following information in your application: name, age, city of residence, employer/job title, email, and your ten best recent rounds or a verifiable GHIN.
